An introduction to modern literary theory focusing on some of the important 20th-century movements that have led up to the present moment of literary study.  Readings in American New Criticism (Ransom, Brooks, Wimsatt), Russian Formalism (Shklovsky, Tomashevsky, Eichenbaum), structuralism (Saussure, Lévi-Strauss), deconstruction (Barthes, Derrida, de Man), cultural studies and New Historicism (Foucault, Geertz, Clastres, Montrose, Greenblatt), and postmodernism (Jameson, Baudrillard, Haraway, Lyotard).
